Very pointy mountains: Italy’s Dolomites

We might get tired of alpine beauty by the end of this part of our trip but the Dolomiti are a unique blend of green alpine meadows, quaint little villages, and jagged peaks. This is civilized wilderness with lifts to take you up the hill and alpine restaurants to refresh your tired legs. Our last stop in Italy did not disappoint.

This is Alpe-di-Suisi a high alpine meadow below beautiful craggy peaks that are the heart of the Dolomites. We were early so many of the restaurants in the valley were still closed but the scenery was nice
We were fortunate to spot the rare but majestic Italian mountain llama on our first day😊
Took the Col Raiser lift and then hiked to the spectacular Seceda Ridge. You can walk across the top like I did or take the lower trail but it’s all beautiful
Our base wat the very boutique-y resort town of Ortisei (AKA St. Ulrich). Everything has two names, Italian and Austrian since this area was part of Austria until 1920. You hear German and Italian equally
Our last day we drove through some of the local passes near us. Lots of turns and an occasional oncoming bus but beautiful
Some areas are craggier than others. The landscape really doesn’t remind me of any one place. Maybe a cross between glacier NP, and Yosemite NP
