Swissy-Mountainy France: Chamonix Mont-Blanc

Chamonix is close to the Swiss and Italian borders and feels like a mix of Switzerland and France. The main draw here is the Mont-Blanc group of summits. We spent a few nights here but the weather only cooperated our last full day. It was glorious with the skies at high altitude almost violet they are so blue; an awe inspiring and forbidding landscape.

Mont Blanc’s true summit is the snow covered round summit at the center. The mountain is shared by France and Italy and there is a gondola to Italy from Aiguille du Midi where this picture was taken
The summit of Aiguille du Midi (Needle of Mid-Day) is the hub of Mont Blanc activity. At 12605 feet it a little over 3000 feet shy of the Mont Blanc summit and is a popular start point for climbers
