Rotorua and Mitai Maori
Rotorua is know for its geothermal features. Kind of a mini Yellowstone. That wasn’t super interesting to us since we’ve been to Yellowstone a couple of times. What they don’t have in Yellowstone is a Maori village. It is rare for any Maori to live as their ancestors did. They are too practical for that. Mitai village does keep many of the traditions alive including Hangi cooking, Maori games. dances, and songs. It is a real family with a hereditary chief and many other cultural traditions. This is our second Maori activity and both have been weirdly emotional.
