Frenchie-Lakie Switzerland: Lausanne and Geneva

Up to this point, we’ve been in the German feeling part of Switzerland. we are now in Lake Geneva near the French border, and there is a different look and feel to the country. Scenery isn’t quite as good (but still very pretty) but the food is better. Geneva particularly felt big, international, and inconvenient like other big cities we’ve visited.

Cailler Chocolate is one of the oldest chocolate brands. My mom and her husband patiently waiting for chocolate.

We also toured where they make Gruyere cheese (in these handsome copper kettles)
The best part of the chocolate factory tour were the samples (they were all good). Didn’t love any of the Gruyere cheese samples. Maybe the cows had a bad day.
Nearby Chillon castle is a beautiful island castle on the Western shore of Lake Geneva
Lord Byron visited and carved his name on one of the columns (maybe). He also wrote “Prisoner of Chillon” (yes)
The castle was begun in the 10th century on top of roman foundations
We’ve seen a lot of castles but couldn’t resist Chillon castle in Montreux with its beautiful views of Lake Geneva

Geneva was just another big city to us but my mom really wanted to see it so we made a quick stop
