Austria Part 1 Salzburg and Hallstatt

We spent a few days in Salzburg Austria. Salzburg is know for Mozart and the Sound of Music (next post) but it has a lot more to offer. Founded in 696, it was not part of Austria until 1805. It is protected by one of the biggest perfectly preserved castles in Europe and was continually expanded by the Archbishop-Princes of Salzburg for over 600 years starting in 1077. Salzburg is surrounded by beautiful mountains and alpine lakes and Halstatt is literally a picture perfect village on one of those lakes.
