Beachy Thailand: Krabi-Railay Beach

From the north of Thailand, we travel to the Krabi area in the south where we stayed at Railay Beach for a few days. It definitely had a different feel due to the transport required and the definite beach vibe there. It was a nice change of pace even though neither of us are beach people. We enjoyed getting to know the area and understand why people are drawn to this beautiful rustic part of Thailand.

Due to the cliffs, Railay access is only by boat or feet
This is a typical scene but there is a roped off swim area
Getting there is half the fun. After our flight, we rode a motorcycle sidecar contraption to the pier and then took a local long tail to the beach where we waded ashore. Kind of fun!

We had good Indian food (better than in India) chicken pakora and chicken biryani with garlic naan
They have a good sense of humor in Railay
Railay walking street had a very mixed feel with families and pot bars coexisting. Maybe a Thai Key West. Lots of construction going on after COVID

Our beach bungalow with outdoor kitchen and outdoor shower. We had air conditioning which was needed!
We were warned about the monkeys but they were chill
Railay Beach West is the only real beach and had the best accommodation choices, and friendliest monkeys
We didn’t do too much touristy stuff but I did take a day trip to some of the islands for snorkeling and a bio luminescence swim. It was a good way to see the area
We didn’t have great weather but the water was still nice and warm. The snorkeling was decent but the bio luminescence swim was a bit lame even with a new moon
